UPON RETIREMENT FROM THE COUNTY Oh BU"1"f1;
WHEREAS, David J. Purcell announced his retirement on December 31, 199$, after 31 years of service
to the Butte County Probation Department, and
WHEREAS, David J. Purcell began his career with the County of Butte in 1967 as a Deputy Probation
Officer and advanced through the positions of Probation Officer II, Senior Probation Officer, Supervising
Probation Officer, Deputy Chief Probation Officer and Interim Chief Probation Officer, and
WHEREAS, David J. Purcell served 30 years with the Butte County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Unit,
and is still active in that service; and whereas he organized and established the Search and Rescue Explorer Post
for boys and girls in Butte County, and
WHEREAS, David J. Purcell worked hard and long to bring several grants to the County of Butte,
including writing and starting the Butte County Anti-drug Special Supervision (BASS) and Probation and
Schools Systems (PASS} programs which have been highly successful, and
WHEREAS, David J. Purcell won several State shooting championships, has been a law enforcement
firearms instructor for various agencies, and Range Master for the Probation Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board, on its own behalf, and on behalf of the
residents of the County of Butte, wish to express to David J. Purcell sincere appreciation for his many years of
unselfish dedication and outstanding service rendered to the residents of the County of Butte, and further wish
him well on his retirement.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of California, this
23rd day of February , 1999, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Beeler, Davis, Houx, Josiassen and Chair Dolan
