RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING "INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF OLDER PERSONS, 1999" WHEREAS, the United Nations General Assembly far 1999 has designated the year 1999 as the "International Year of Older Persons, 1999" establishing the theme "Toward a Society for All Ages," and WHEREAS, the White I-louse Millennium Council, created in ~~ugust of 1997 by President and Mrs. Clinton to pay tribute to millions of older Americans who built and secured this nation through their ingenuity, hard work and sacrifice, have adopted ``Honor the Past, Imagine the Future" as the official theme of the Council; and WHEREAS, the Administration on Aging has combined the theme of the United Nations International Year of Older Persons and the White House Millennium Council's official theme to establish the official theme for Older Americans Month, May 1999, to be "Honor the Past, Imagine the Future: Towards a Society for All Ages," and WHEREAS, Pete Wilson, former Governor of the State of California, has proclaimed October 1, 1998 through October 1, 1999 as `'The Year of Older Persons, 1999" in the State of California to pay special tribute to our older population, their families, neighbors and friends; and WHEREAS, Butte County Long Term Care Network is committed to the promotion of quality care at appropriate levels in order to ensure the maximum independence with dignity and full involvement in decision making of not only the elder citizens but all disabled consumers of long-term care; and WHEREAS, Butte County Long Term Care Network fulfills its mission by providing accurate and understandable information with a preventive focus on long-term care; and educates the public along with present and prospective consumers about long-term care services, resources, and issues; and WHEREAS, Butte County Long Tenn Care Network informs elected officials and policy makers about long-term care needs and issues; and advocates positions on selected long-term care needs and issues; and WHEREAS, Butte County Long Term Care Network promotes information sharing and cooperation between and among agencies involved in the delivery of long-term care services; and WHEREAS, the Butte County Long Term Care Network establishes an open forum wherein concepts and ideas can be freely explored and developed through the various standing committees and ad hoc task groups; and WHEREAS, the Butte County Long Term Care Network is made up of regulatory members (agencies andlor organizations created by Tederal, State and County directives and who have specified legal or regulatory authority or other specific duties or responsibilities); provider members (organizations, agencies. and groups involved in providing long-term care); and consumer-individual members (consisting of senior citizens, disabled, friend/family caregivers and other professional and/or consumer individuals; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte has acknowledged the importance of the Butte County Long Term Care Network by supporting and promoting the availability of the programs represented in the Netwark. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaims October 1, 1998 through October 1, 1999 as the "International Year of Older Persons, 1999" in the County of Butte, and encourages all citizens of the County of Butte and its surrounding area to attend the events sponsored by member organizations of the Butte County Long "berm Care Network in honor of the International Year of Older Persons, 1999, to help Butte County residents "Honor the Past, Imagine the Future: Towards a Society for all Ages."
