A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE BUTTE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF
PUBLIC WORKS AS A CF,RTIFIED USED OIL COLLECTION CENTER
WHEREAS, the County of Butte, Department of Public Works, administers a
Used Oil Block Grant on behalf of the County and the cities of Chico, Oroville, Biggs and
the Town of Paradise; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Used Oil Block Grant is to provide public
education regarding the need for proper disposal of used motor oil and encourage the use
of re-refined motor ail; and
WHEREAS, the primary goal of the County's Used Oil Education Program is to
increase the availability of appropriate disposal outlets for used motor oil which can be
utilized by do-it-yourself oil changers; and
w'HEREAS, the Butte County Public Works Department is responsible for
servicing and maintaining County fleet vehicles, including providing routine motor oil and
oil filter changes on said vehicles and in the course of providing such service already
collects used motor oil and filters for re-refining and recycling; and
WHEREAS, the Butte Caunty Public Works Department is located in an area of
the County that is currently in need of more used oil disposal outlets to adequately serve
the population base and has the equipment, capacity, and personnel to act as a State-
Certified Used Oil Collection Center; and
WHEREAS, the Butte County Public Works Department agrees to accept
uncontaminated used motor ail and oil filters from the Public, tree of charge; and
WHEREAS, the Butte County Public Works Department will offer a rebate of
$d. l b per gallon of used motor oil received from do-it-yourself oil changers and will file
for reimbursement of said rebate from the California Integrated Waste Management
Board;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of
Supervisors authorizes the Director of the Butte County Public Works Department to sign
and submit to the California Integrated Waste Management Board a Used Oil Collection
Center Certification Application in substantially the form attached hereto.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors, County of Butte, State
of California, this 27th day of April, 1999, by the following vote:
