RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING "DRUG COURT WEEK"
WHEREAS, drug courts provide the focus and leadership for community-wide, anti-drug
systems, bringing together criminal justice, treatment, education and other community partners in the
fight against drug abuse and criminality; and
WHEREAS, drug court programs combine intensive judicial supervision, mandatory drug
testing, escalating sanctions and treatment, effectively breaking the cycle of drug addiction and its
concomitant crime; and
WHEREAS, the judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, treatment and rehabilitation
professionals, law enforcement and corrections personnel, educators and community leaders dedicated
to the movement have made a profound impact through their hard work and commitment to their
communities; and
WHEREAS, the drug court movement has grown from the 12 original drug courts in 1994 to
over 600 drug courts that are in operation or in the planning stages.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
recognizes "National Drug Court Week" of June i-7, 1999 and declares June I-7, 1999 "Drug Court
Week" in Butte County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors recognize the
practitioners who make drug courts work, and the significant contributions that drug courts have made
and continue to make in reducing drug usage and crime.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 25th day of May
1999 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Beeler, Houx, Josiassen, Davis and Chair Dolan
