HomeMy WebLinkAbout99-073RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE DEDICATION OF THE SILVER DOLLAR FAIR PAVILION TO MARVIN J. CASSADY, JR. WHEREAS, on May 29, 1999 the Silver Dollar Fair Board of Directors will dedicate the Silver Dollar Fair Pavilion to Marvin J. Cassidy, .lr., in honor and recognition of his lifelong commitment to community service and the fair industry; and WHEREAS, Marvin J. Cassidy, Jr., was born ,luly 27, 1924 in (Jroville, Califonnia. He attended Gridley schools and Yuba College. During high school Marvin was active in Future Farmers of America (FFA}. He was considered the most active individual in FFA in the entire state during that time; and WHEREAS, Marvin received his State Farmer Degree in 1941, was State FFA Secretary in 1942, State FFA President in 1943. and received his American Farmer Degree that same year. He is the only FF 4 member in the 70 year history of the organization, in California, to have held two State offices; and WHEREAS, from 1939 to 1942, Marvin exhibited registered Berkshire and Hampshire hogs at many northern California fairs. but this career was interrupted by World War II and service in the U. S. Navy in the South Pacific. In 1946 Marvin began farming, and his diverse operation included registered hogs, cattle, prunes, walnuts and rice. Again. he began to show hogs at major fairs throughout California, and continued to do so until 1961 _ Between 1962 and 1981, Marvin judged at many California fairs: and WHEREAS, Marvin was appointed to the Sih~er Dollar Fair Board of Directors in 1972, balding the position of Board President many times. Marvin has been involved with the Silver Dollar Fair Junior Livestock Auction Committee for over 30 years and is presently Chairman. He has served on the Western Fairs Association. Fair Directors Committee from 1990 to 1997. Mari~in also strongly supports and assists the Butte County Fair; and WHEREAS, During the past 50 years, Marvin has visited numerous fairs in the state either as an exhibitor, judge or fair director. He continues to attend between 25-30 of California's fairs each year. In addition to his hobby of fairs, Marvin is a 50-year member of Ben Ali Shrine, a Director of the Prune Bargaining Association, past Director of the California Prune Marketing Committee, and former trustee of Gridley union High School District. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors an its oven behalf, and for the residents of Butte County, wishes to honor Marvin 1. Cassady, Jr., and to recognize his unselfish dedication, devotion and service to the Silver Dollar Fair. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 25`~ day of May 1999 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Beeler,.
