RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 1999 AS
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH IN BUTTE COUNTY
WHEREAS, in the County of Butte men, women and children are victims of violence
each year; and
WHEREAS, we in the County of Butte are committed to restoring our first civil right--
the right to freedom from fear in our own homes; and
WHEREAS, the problems of domestic violence are not confined to any group or groups
of people but cross all economic, racial, religious, and social barriers; and
WHEREAS, in our quest to impose sanctions on those who break the law by perpetrating
violence, we must also meet the needs of the victims who suffer grave financial, physical and
psychological losses; and
WHEREAS, The crime of domestic violence violates an individual's privacy, dignity,
and security, often leaving an imprint of fear and hostility; and
WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wide ranging, affecting society as a
whole.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
designates the month of October 1999 as Butte County Domestic Violence Awareness Month;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors reaffirms a
commitment to address domestic violence issues during 1999 Butte County Domestic Violence
Awareness Month and throughout the year, and further, urges all citizens, agencies, and
businesses to actively support the idea of'`"Zero Tolerance" toward domestic violence.

September 1999 by the following vote:
