YAMAGUCHI Fifth District On behalf of Butte County thank you for sponsoring AB 495, which authorizes the California Department of General Services to transfer ownership of the property known as Harts Mill Forest Fire Station (Old) to Butte County for Iocal uses. The property was vacated by CalFire in the fall of 2008 and has been standing empty since. Maintaining the property for public uses will benefit not only the community, but also the County and the State. The residents will benefit from having a designated community meeting place, a museum, and access to local recreational opportunities; the County Fire Department will benefit from access to vital water sources on the property for this fire prone area, as will CalFire; and the residents, County and State will benefit from a more consistent local presence of a Deputy Sheriff who will have access to office space on the property. Though many people think that no one lives in the Berry Creek area, there are actually over 1,200 residents that will benefit from the property and facility. Butte County appreciates your support and sponsorship of AB 495 and looks forward to passage of this bill, which is also supported by the Feather River Recreation and Parks District, Cal Fire, the Sierra Foothills Art Association, the County Historical Society, the Berry Creek Fire Safe Council, the Berry Creek Citizen's Association, and the Barry Creek Community Council.
