C/ ~' By -~' ~ .G' COUNTY OF BUTTES STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION IlV RE FLOOD CONTROL ON BUTTE CREEKS LITTLE CREEK, BIG CHICO CRHEK AND UNDO CHANNEL WHEREAS several times in the past, and more recently during the storms of the period of December 19th through Dece-nnber 24th, 1955, the Chicn~Durham area has suffered extensively as a result of f~.ooding from Butte Creek, Little Chico Creek, Big Chico Creek and Lindo Channel; and WHEREAS. the Federal Congress in the Flood Control Act of 1944 authorized certain Levees, channel improvement work and control structures to prevent flooding from the above four creeks; and WHEREAS only a portion of the Little Chico~Butte Creek project has been built and cannot be fully utilized until completion of the project; and WHEREAS extensive development of industrial, commercial and residential property since 1944 has greatly increased the benefits which would accrue from control of floods on these streams; and WHEREAS. continued development in the area will substantially increase the cost of right of way for the project and the dislocating effects of the construction on local improvexx~ents; NOW; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the BOARD OF SUPER VISORS of the COUNTY OF BUTTE, State of California, as follows: 1, That the Congress of the United States be strongly urged to appropriate adequate funds at the next session thereof, cowmen{ ing in ~Tan~ uary, 1956, to construct the authorized flood control works on Butte Creek, Little Chico Greek, Big Chico Greek and Lindo. Channel as rapidly as is engineeringly practical; and `, 2« That the approriate officials of the County a£ Butte make e r effort to assist i.n bringing these projects to a successful conclusion; and 3. WHEREAS the citrus industry of Butte and Glenn Counties, representing over ninety per cent (90°0) of the commercial growers and shippers of citrus fruit in Northern California have urgently requested the Board of Supervisor; of the County of Butte to pass a resolution requesting Governor Goodwin J, Knight to call a special session of the Legislature to deal with the controlling with quick decline virus of citrus; and WHEREAS said citrus industry, through its proper associations, is requesting a change in the wording of Section 108, 5 of the California Agricul- ture Code to establish host free areasA and for financial appropriations there- for; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the BOARD OF SUPERVISORS of the COUNTY OF BUTTE$ State of California, as follows: 1, That this Board respectfully request that GOVERNOR GOODWIN J, KNIGHT give serious consideration to making a special call of the 1956 Legislature for the purpose of dealing with the quick decline virus of citrus, which is threatening Northern California citrus industry? 2, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Goodwin J, Knight, Senator Paul LP Byrne and to Assemblyman Harold T, Sedgwick, and to all other interested persons.
