YAMAGUCHI Fifth District The County of Butte has worked cooperatively with the Butte County Superior Court in the development of the New North Butte County Courthouse. The County Board of Supervisors supports this critically-needed project, as does the community at large. The Butte County Superior Court is currently unable to fully serve our mutual constituents in the existing facilities. The planned facilities will allow the Court to operate more efficiently, thereby helping manage the higher work load caused by increasing complexities in the law and changes such as the Public Safety Realignment of 2011. In addition to improving Court operations, the project is needed by the community. In the short term, jobs will be created to the benefit of the community. In the long term, this project provides a location around which other public and private services can be centered, giving us the ability to provide more efficient services to our constituents. It has come to our attention that consideration is being given to redirect funds from this project, along with similar projects throughout the state, in order to fund .Court operations. We strongly oppose such a shift. We believe it is extremely short-sighted to exchange years of state-wide community and constituent benefit for Iimited gain in one county.
