Dear Supervisor Teeter:
Members of Chico 350 and the Butte Environmental Council (BEC) would like to express our
deep thanks to you for your letter to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), regarding the
perils of transporting crude ail by rail through the Feather River Canyon. Chico 356 and BEC
have been working together over the last several months to educate the public regarding the
danger to our water supply, should a spill of crude oil occur in the canyon.
As you are no doubt aware, at least 1 I crude oil trains have derailed in various parts of the
country in the 3 years since the Lac-M6gantic disaster, resulting in explosions and spills causing
significant damage to property and contamination of the air, land and water. Since the Feather
River Canyon has been deemed a high hazard rail route, should crude oil continue to be
shipped through the canyon, a derailment and resulting spill is a likely future scenario.
We hope you will continue to be a voice against the dangerous transportation of crude oil by rail
and stand against the expansion of this industry practice.
Sincerely, „ P
