Subject: Butte County Water Commission Vacancy
Dear Supervisors,
The Butte County Water Commission has failed to have a quorum for its last two scheduled meetings
(November and December). One aspect of the problem may be that there has been a vacancy on the
nine-person panel for a number of months. The vacancy falls in the category of a landowner °served by
district water" with--as Irecall--the Legislative intent to apply to surface water users.
There are too many important water issues crossing the public agenda at this time for the County to have a
non-functional Water Commission. i urge you to look within your districts to find someone to fill the
existing vacancy.
At the very least it would seem that there is a potential population of tens of thousands available for this
vacancy from the Paradise Irrigation District, the Thermalito Irrigation District, the Biggs-West Gridley
Water District, the Richvale Irrigation District, and the Western Canal Water District--and even more i£ the
term "district" were 9n#erpreted to include other surface wa#er purveyors such as the South Feather Wa#er
& Power Agency, Butte Water, Dayton Mutual Wa#er Company, Durham Mutual Water Company, or Del
Oro Water Coxnpany.*
Sincerely,
Tony St. Arrant
Chico
* Listed agencies, all identified as surface water suppliers, from the Butte County General Plan, Setting and
Trends Report.
