DATE OF INCIDENT TIME NCIC NUMBER OFFICER I.D. NUMBER

SEQUENCE OF EVENTS:
A single vehicle collision on State Route 99 (SR-99), south of MPM 99 BUT
40.840/Meridian Road, resulted in approximately 30 gallons of diesel fuel being spilled
into the dry creek bed of Rock Creek. The diesel fuel spilled from the vehicle's own fuel
tank.

ROAD CLOSURES:
SR-99 was closed due to the collision. The collision resulted in the vehicle balancing on
the edge of the bridge over Rock Creek. One way traffic control was conducted for 3 hours
and 15 minutes. The entire road was closed for an additional hour to remove the vehicle
from the bridge. Detours were in place to divert traffic around the closure.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
The vehicle involved was a two axle, six tire, box truck. The driver drifted onto the right
shoulder where it collided with a guardrail. The vehicle continued southbound straddling
the bridge guardrail. The vehicle came to rest with 1/3 of the vehicle hanging off the
bridge over Rock Creek. The fuel was spilled from the vehicle's own fuel tank. The fuel
spilled onto the roadway then drained through a water drain onto the dry creek bed below.
Rock Creek has seasonal water flow.

CLEAN UP ACTIONS
Caltrans responded to the scene to assist with the roadway cleanup. Caltrans and Cal
Fire placed absorbent material on the roadway to clean up the vehicle fluids. Caltrans
later removed the used absorbant. The creek bed cleanup is being coordinated by
Caltrans and CA Dept of Fish and Game. The vehicle was removed from the bridge by
Browers towing from Oroville. Rito Rodriguez (a representative of Flor Expo LLC.) took
possession of the vehicle. Further cleanup of the creek bed is ongoing.
