Subject: Chico Library Budget
Dear Butte County and City of Chico,
I am president of the Chico, Friends of the Library. At our February board meeting we talked about our main fundraiser,
the Saturday Book Sale. Due to holiday closures on Saturday, the, book sale has lost about a month's worth of
revenue. Before the budget cuts the library would have had holiday closures on Mondays instead of Saturdays, but now
the Chico branch is closed on Saturdays like all the other Butte County Branches.
So far this fiscal year, Chico Friends of the Library has spent$43,090 on library book purchases (which doesn't include
money spent on digital media, magazines/newspapers, equipment, programs), and the book sale revenue has dropped
from $37,463 last year to$33,816 this fiscal year. Last year's budget cuts, have impacted our ability to help the library,
as well as the library's capacity for community service.
I know budget time is upon us. Please consider the library in your planning.
Diane, Friedman.
President, Chico Friends of the Library
