The collision involved a tanker truck and trailer transporting 8800 gallons of gasoline, and a Caltrans utility truck. The subsequent damage caused from the collision to the tanker trailer allowed 1800 gallons of gasoline to be spilled onto the roadway and the south dirt shoulder edge of SR-70. The result of this incident was the contamination of soil that stretched approximately 125 feet in length and 30 feet in width. The contamination showed no visible signs of contaminating any nearby waterways. Caltrans representatives were on scene to monitor the cleanup and removal of contaminated soil by NRC Environmental Services, a State Licensed Hazardous Waste Disposal Company. The contamination by the gasoline did not represent a significant hazard or cause risk of substantial injury to the public safety or health. This report is submitted on behalf of all designated employees of the Department of California Highway Patrol.
