We would like to request your help in an important effort being undertaken by the U.S. Census
Bureau. During the week of October 11, 2011, you will receive the Government Units Survey
(GUS), the first phase of the 2011 Census of Governments (CoG).
The Government Units Survey is the only source of nationwide, comprehensive information on
official counts of local government units in the United States. The survey collects the location,
characteristics, and limited financial data about every local government. The information we
collect from the GUS and the CaG will provide a comprehensive look at the economic activities
of America's governments. These data serve as building blocks for the calculation of the
government sector of our nations Gross Domestic Product and are vitally important.
I# you have any questions concerning this effort, or if you do not receive the Government Units
Survey prior to October 24, please contact the Governments Division of the U.S. Census Bureau
at govs.qus @ census.gov or '[ -888-202-2691.
Thank yvu for your time and assistance in this endeavor.
Sincerely,
~~'~. ~ .
