Dear Honorable Butte County Board of Supervisors.
BQARD OF SIIRERVISORS
MAR 2 ~ 1D~g
OROV1l.LE, CALIFORNIA
am writing you concerning the automatic raises for Assistant Department
Heads. In a time where there are County employees on layoff, there have been
na cost of living raises for aver three and one half years and we the workers
have had to absorb two health insurance increases, this action, if taken would
be deplorable. I urge you to deny this action until all workers can share in
raises.
There have been no Colas, raises, pay increases or merit steps for many
positions for some years now because of the economic situation of the county.
This makes it hard to adjust to the cost of living but we have no choice but to
learn how to cut back, take away, do without or just deal with it. Since the
county is not covering any of our medical insurance increases, it makes that
loss of income even more of a hardship. So, the fact that you as a Board are
issuing automatic salary increases is astounding!
In light of these economic times, it was quite disconcerting to find out about
these raises, after being assured by you, the Board, that automatic pay raises
for department heads had been eliminated. It appears as if you will say
whatever is necessary to appease us, but continue to do as you choose to do.
This certainly doesn't appear to be a fair representation of not only the voters
but especially the other Butte County employees. I hope you take these factors
into consideration when this issue arises at future board meetings. Thank You.
Sincerely,
Gail Edmundson
