It has come to our attention that Jan Michl Sylva will be retiring from Butte County
Department of Employment and Social Services, Adult Protective Services, on or about
October 6, 2011.
It has been our pleasure to work with Jan for over 20 years in resolving family
problems, assisting with the elderly and dependent adults, and simply rescuing the
neediest of our community from neglect and abuse. Jan has been the most faithful
county employee who places public service to the community as her highest priority.
Her knowledge, expertise, and reliability have distinguished her from the many
outstanding county social workers as "the best of the best." Anytime we needed to call
upon Adult Protective Services, we were confident that Jan would handle each issue
with professionalism, compassion, and urgency while promoting the dignity of the
individual.
Jan is well deserving of this opportunity to retire and enjoy life, but she will be greatly
missed. Her retirement is a loss to the County of Butte, and to our community of older
