Subject: RE:Agenda - Monday's BRCP Applicants Committee Meeting
Hi Casey,
Only the Chico Municipal Airport will be removed from the BRCP; all other airports remain in the BRCP. City of Chico
staff requested that the Chico Municipal Airport be removed from the BRCP permit area due to concerns raised by FAA
with regard to protecting Butte County meadowfoam populations on the airport lands. This is a unique situation found
only at the Chico Municipal Airport.
Due to pre-existing agreements between the City of Chico and FAA, airport lands cannot be encumbered with any sort of
easement for protecting species. Significant Butte County meadowfoam populations exist on the Chico Municipal Airport
properties, and the BRCP had a goal of protecting some of these occurrences.
This is the only airport in Butte County that is constrained by Butte County meadowfoam in this way;the other airports
in the Plan Area do not have Butte County meadowfoam on their properties. The BRCP has no goals for protecting any
species on any other airport properties.
Because of the removal of the Chico Municipal Airport from the BRCP permit area, any future projects at the Chico
Municipal Airport will not be permitted through the BRCP, but rather will use the existing Section 7 permitting process
1
and consult with the state and federal agencies as necessary. And the BRCP will no longer have goals for protecting
Butte County meadowfoam occurrences at the Chico Municipal Airport.
Chris
