The very thought and mere suggestion of even partiel closures to any rural fire stations. Is sheer lunacy and unthinkable. Especially the fire station at Jarbo Gap on Highway 70. How can the county administration, even justify the thought or suggestion, of a partial closure of this very important fire station. Within the past 6 months (winter months) there have been 5 or 6 catastrophic vehicle accidents along the Highway 70 corridor. A family of five were killed in the southern end of Butte county. And most recently a couple of months ago a family of five were almost killed when they were on their way home to Quincy. A construction truck/trailer fishtailed in the Grizzy dome tunnel, crashed into them all except the truck driver, were very seriously injured. You can bet the Jarbo Gap fire station was the first on scene at this accident. Also a concrete construction truck driver was killed when his truck overturned. On highway 70. For those county employees and others, who live in Chico and other areas their north and south corridors are 99 or highway 5. Highway 70 is unknown or totally ignored by many who haven't even ventured into the foothills. Yet 70 is a major highway to the eastern part of the country and south to Roseville and Sacramento. Its not all about wildfires, who can forget the catastrophic fire in 2008, and many others through out the years. Life saving medical emergency's are another aspect that comes into being. In any age group. Seniors are most vulnerable Cherokee, Yankee Hill and Concow, are 30 miles away from any town. A patient would be dead by the time outside help gets to them. This is a very very serious consideration the board has to mull through. The safety of all people in the county is at stake. Reducing county employee's and or lowing salaries, is the better and safer option. Sincerely the Masarik family. 1
