Emergency Services Officer,John Gulserian, from the Butte County Office of Emergency Management, immediately authorized the North Valley Animal Disaster Group (NVADG) to respond as Disaster Service Workers. This letter is written to acknowledge and support John, Gulserian in that decision. Lake County was experiencing a very large and very dangerous wildiand fire that was threatening many residences. The Lake County Animal Control staff had worked literally non-stop since the fire began (four days prior). When the NVADG resources arrived at 0800 on Monday morning, we were briefed by Animal Control officers that had worked through the night evacuating animals. Bill Davidson was actually living at his table in the EOC. NVADG sent a total of 17 volunteers to assist over the next seven days, helping with both the evacuation and sheltering of animals. it was a wonderful training experience for our personnel. Because of their experiences in Lake County, NVADG volunteers will be better equipped to help their local communities,in Butte County. Lake County was extremely thankful and appreciative for the help they received. The founders of their own volunteer animal rescue group, LEAP (Lake, Emergency Animal Protection) had attended NVADG's yearly introductory training several years ago, and had modeled much of their own group after NVADG. It was wonderful to work side-by-side with them in the true spirit of Mutual Aid. it was an appropriate and correct decision by John Gulserian to see a sister county in need, and do everything within his power to help them. Based on the amount of work accomplished by NVADG volunteers, and the gratitude expressed by the Lake County residents and officials, there is little doubt that they would return the favor if ever asked in the future. Thank you for your consideration of the above. I would be happy to discuss any of the details related to the Lake County deployment at your convenience. Sincerely, John Maretti - President NVADG Y'
