The League of Women Voters of Butte County will be participating in the Tenth
Annual National Sunshine Week. The goal is to educate the public about the need
for and the legal requirements of government councils, boards and commissions to
be transparent.
In California we have the 95 pages of the Brown Act that most citizens don't know
much about. We have invited. two guest speakers to address the Brown Act and the
responsibilities of our trusted elected and appointed officials.
Susan Morris-Wilson has held high-level offices on the national level of the League
of Women Voters. Currently, she serves as the management trainerfor LWV in
Northern California. In this role she has trained local LWV county observer corps,
the "watchdogs" of local government.
Tim Crews is the editor and publisher of the Sacramento Valley Mirror. As a
journalist he has gone to court numerous times to keep local government meetings
and records open to the public. He has been awarded the Freedom of Information
Award three times by the California Newspaper Publishers Association. Mr. Crews
is the VP of Californians Aware, a nonprofit established to help journalists and
others keep Californians aware of what they need to know to hold government
accountable for their actions,.
Please bring your lunch and curiosity to our event.
