Subject: Sanctuary Jurisdiction
Dear Mr. Teeter and Board of Supervisors,
I cannot attend your meeting on Tuesday, March 14 but I want to make sure my voice is heard.
I am writing to ask you not to dismantle Butte County's Trust Act of 2014 (AB4) agreement and continue to not
spend its resources to hold non-criminals suspected of being undocumented. I ask you to not make our law
enforcement agencies extensions of ICE.
A few days ago, I heard a story about an Arizona sheriff, Mark Napier, who does not believe in arresting law-
abiding undocumented individuals without probable cause:
"Let's say that an undocumented immigrant were to witness a bank robbery, get a license plate number or have
great information to be able to come for us and help us solve a crime,"Napier says. "That person would not be
amenable to coming to contact local law enforcement out of fear of deportation."
Napier says he's happy with federal immigration agents doing their jobs and his deputies doing theirs.
I am fearful that our friends and neighbors and their families could suffer if wrongfully detained and that this
could lead to an abuse of power as described in the beginning of the same article:
"The federal government gave Arpaio his power, and it turned him into a monster that terrorized our
community for years."
Here is the link to the article.
