Subject: Request for Declaration of a Shelter Crisis ( corrected emails)
Dear all council members and all board of supervisors,
I would like to ask for a declaration of a shelter crisis.
The reason I am sending this urgent request is not only for all those in desperate need, but myself as well.
I too became a person in need. A homeless person.
I was in college studying to be a math teacher however due to other family members health problems, my
own health problems, the house I was renting with very low rent was put on the market and no transportation,
ect-
I became homeless. Me.
I didn't think it could happen. I was with the same company for almost twenty years ect.. I was a helpful and
a good citizen, paid my taxes.Paid my bills on time and I had good credit. I voted. I volunteered. Ect...I was
denied adequate disability and denied Workrnans comp insurance through fault of the company not paying
premiums.
Too long... But I hope you get the idea....
In short again... I became homeless. Me. I still can't believe it.
This could be you. I hope not of course. But it could be.
I am very lucky to have friends to stay with from time to time. In my experience, MOST homeless people do
not have this luxury.
Please. I ask you to look at the facts, even ignore my story if you must.
Look at Dignity Village in Portland and other examples. Please. The facts, the nuts and bolts approach of this
"system" speaks for itself.
I want to help myself and others. I want to work. I want to LIVE.
I DO NOT WANT TO GIVE UP - PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP ON ME and US. The homeless. MANY of
NO FAULT of their own.
I thank you for your time and consideration for the request of"Declaration of a Shelter Crises"
