I've attached the complete version of what I had hoped to say to you yesterday. Yes, I am disappointed. As Steve Lambert alluded to in his remarks to the public yesterday, there is a need for the Silent Majority to awaken. The public must become involved to turn this hotly contested item around in favor of Butte County families & our quality -of -life. It is well-known fact that "bad things happen when good people do nothing." Thank you for your leadership in awakening the sleeping giant.. ..this granny is Fightin' for her Grandz! dianna April 22, 2014 Dear Board, It is All About the MONEY, NOT the ability to grow for Medicinal purposes! This is the reason we are here today. This granny is saddened that FOR -profit pot growers have validated a Referendum to the county's Medical Marijuana Ordinance under the guise that it is too restrictive. We all know this to be untrue! With their Income Tax free, nuisance abatement free commodity threatened, pot profiteers launched a dishonest propaganda campaign as today's testimony supports. Incredibly, while FOR -Profit growers contribute NO money to the governmental machine which provides an umbrella of protection for their pernicious activity. They don't hesitate to exploit it for their own good. $50,000 is the amount law abiding taxpayers of Butte County will have to fork out to cover the costs for the work of the County Clerk's office for the initiative backed by pot plantation owners. Our family safety is at stake. Rather than live in fear, next door to a pot plantation, rural ranchers may choose to Sell-out to the highest bidding pot grower and Move to Paradise where No pot can be grown. Still others may become pot plantation owners. If profiteering pot growers get their way, expect a mass exodus, in epic numbers, of stable families from rural Butte County neighborhoods. This is a frightening possibility that could easily become reality. Just imagine what it would do to property -values also. The quality -of -life and the landscape of rural Butte County hang in the balance. What a great racket the FOR -Profit pot business is. In fact, in this tough economy, I'm even tempted to cave-in, for the pot commodity is Income Tax Free. If the pot initiative campaign is NOT defeated, my gorgeous little ranch would be a "perfect" pot set-up. Just imagine, instead of horses, cattle, hogs and chickens you'd see six foot fences, guard dogs, alarms and NO wildlife. What is a stunningly beautiful, pastoral setting would become a stinking crop of weed, a cesspool of chemical fertilizers leeching into Little Butte Creek and blight. Remember, all my rural neighbors are in the same boat and also have a choice to make. U5A Today recently reported that Redding ranks #2 in the nation for well-being due to rates of unemployment, crime & drug abuse. Know also that FOR -Profit grows proliferate in Shasta County. Last month, a Referendum overturned their board's ability to restrict profiteering Pot growers. The same will surely happen in Butte County. This week, the numbers 420 held special significance for me. Not only did Easter share that date, but for the first time, I had a Letter to the Editor printed in the Chico Enterprise -Record. The Headline: "Pot irofiteers harm quality of life in Butte County". I couldn't have asked for a better marker to commemorate that date. I am neighbors to a pot plantation. 2013 revealed to me that Pot is the only California crop which requires lethal force for protection against theft putting me in harm's way. In fact, fear strikes at the heart of individuals and families as major grows infiltrate rural Butte County neighborhoods. There is little objection to the "medicinal" grower. However, all object to the consequences of living next door to a major grow which include: fear & anxiety, knowing you are in harm's way merely by proximity to a grow; vicious guard dogs; alarms; suffocating stench from this malodorous plant; wanton disregard for the animals and terrain as areas are clear-cut; loss of freedom to conduct normal business. My family deserves better and so does yours. Your action in February to limit pot grows to "Medicinal Only" was the right thing to do for Butte County & it's citizens. Dont change that today. Draft a stop -gap ordinance to shut down 2014's pot plantations. Protect rural Butte County residents. In the meantime, I will hold all of you nice people civilly accountable for any mishap that occurs to my family or me as a result of your choice to do otherwise. Best regards, Dianna Wright aka scarred granny
