This program would entail two DBH staff to work as police dispatched mental health counselors to assist in evaluating individuals for behavioral health needs, including evaluation for 5150 status. This collaborative effort will be a one year pilot to determine the effectiveness of providing mental health assessment and services alongside police in the field. After one year, both agencies will review the outcomes of this endeavor to determine further programming efforts. For almost a year now, we have had a collaboration with the CPD in working alongside their Target Team for outreach to the homeless. This has been successful in getting difficult to engage persons into services. Through this new program we will be providing a mobile crisis counselor to respond to mental health calls as requested by CTPD via police radio dispatch. CPD is providing radio training, as well as other field work and safety training. They have also donated a car to DBH as part of the collaboration. DBH will assign two-full time staff to this pilot program which will run 7 days a week from approximately 8:30am to 6:80pm. We are finalizing a non-financial, inter-agency MOU in December and then training and operational' planning will be undertaken in January. The goal is to roll out services for the project on, or around, February 1, 2018. The Behavioral Health Board will be informed over the next two weeks so this information will become more widely known in the community. I wanted to make sure you had this information in case any questions or comments are brought to you from your constituents. Of course, as always, please call me with any questions. cc: Clerk of the Board, Shari McCracken, Kory Honea, Mike Ramsey, Sang Kim, Steve Bordin, Scott Kennelly
