Dear Butte County Elected Supervisors,
Are you now making decisions about what collection services individual residents need and pay for?
This morning a Waste Management representative came to my door informing me he was here to pick up my
old collection containers and give me two new ones for use under the new system. I use two containers; one
for trash and one for recyclables. Later, after he left, II went outside to bring in the containers and there"s a
thiird container sitting there -one for yard waste. II never used the yard waste service before, preferring
instead to haul my yard waste away in a utility trailer. My yard is large and normally produces more waste
than what would fit, into the WM container.
About an hour after the three containers were dropped off, two other WM representatives came by the house
collecting the old waste containers. I explained to them about not using the yard waste service and asked
them to take the new yard waste container back, as there clearly was some mistake. They said there was no
mistake and proceeded to tell me that under the new agreement with the county I would receive a yard waste
container (in addition to,the other two) and be charged for yard waste collection regardless of using it or not.
Please let me know if this is accurate. Are you entering into service contracts on behalf of individual residents
that they are required to pay for through private companies? Ed Daniels

The only way to effectively correct the problems you have created With this ill advised
trash scheme is to dump your 120 page Franchise Agreement into the trasl-i. I
understan'd the benefit of having less trucks in neighborhoods,but Irwonder how many
complaints there have been to jt-istify this solution. If you.wanted.to provide more
services to those wbo were ,withot,-it service, then deN7rise a plan for them and charge them
-for their new services. It seems to me that this new plan is only a.win-win for the waste
companies,, and perhaps 5 government ofticials« The waste companies have their routes
condensed., saving fuel expenses and.time, (How many people lost jobs due to the
restructuring, saving the companies more money?), we are being charged more for the
diminished service, and the waste companies pick up more customers
with additional services to make more money, it begs the question of vvho's lining who's
pockets? This is an outrage and an egregious abuse of power.
