Subject: Housing for displaced families
To the Board of Supervisors of Butte County,
I work for Homegrown Trailers, a Kirkland Washington based company building self-sufficient,sustainable, and healthy
mobile dwellings with solar and composting toilets that I believe could bring some relief to disaster victims. Our trailers
are designed to operate without developed infrastructure and can support families in need where a conventional "plug-
in" trailer cannot.
From what I've gathered from the news reports, one of the biggest problems with the current recovery effort has been
finding placement for these trailers (or FEMA trailers), as well as a program to connect families with a source of long-
term temporary housing. Do you have any suggestions of an organization that could help us make this link?
We have a large group of sponsors and supporters ready to help get families back under a roof but we need help from
California based organizations to finalize logistics.
Do you have some time to talk with me about what entities we can reach out to that may be able to help us find
locations and families?
Our hearts go out to the residents of California and we are doing everything we can to bring some comfort and support
to those who need it.
Sincerely,
Grant Hawley
Production Manager

Dear Residents of California,
Our hearts go out to everyone in California affected by wildfires in 2018 and we applaud the
tireless efforts of first responders. We are here to support short and long-term recovery
efforts. Homegrown Trailers is a Washington-based Social Purpose Corporation committed to
a triple bottom line (people, profit, planet) that extends beyond the products we build. While
we wish we had the resources to provide cash donations, we are launching a fundraising
campaign to place one or more displaced families into a Homegrown Trailer. We are also
able to offer a purchase discount to anyone displaced by the 2018 California Wildfires.
While both Travel Trailers and RVs are readily available throughout California, we want you
to have the ability to return to your community and live comfortably while you rebuild your
lives. Our Timberline model has the features of a cozy cabin, portability of a travel trailer, and
is completely autonomous to operate. With a robust solar array and lithium ion batteries,
water filtration, and composting toilet Homegrown Trailers allow for a very comfortable
existence whether utilities are available, coming online, or not available on your property.

We are open to working with you to find short and long-term solutions. If we can support you
as an individual displaced by wildfires, a homeowner looking to rebuild, an insurance provider
thinking outside of the box, a community relief organizations, or an agency player looking to
find alternative solutions to the challenges at hand, please reach out to us today.
In Solidarity,

California Wildfire Disaster Recovery Partnership
All too often in life there are problems that seems insurmountable, and rather than act we
standby and wait for someone else to do something. When the right people come together,
and the intentions are good, anything is possible.
What we are offering:
Our company has developed self-sufficient, sustainable, and healthy mobile dwellings
that grew out of our founding team's love of travel and experience with conservation,
sustainability, resilience planning, and working on the front lines of natural disasters.
Bottom line...we have a solution that can help those in California rebuild their lives and
we want to help. We are spearheading the effort by bringing sponsors, displaced
individuals, and insurance companies together to start the re-building process.
Why we are doing this:
While it may seem self-serving, our team is truly passionate about doing good and we
can't stand by while people are in need and our solution can help. As a startup we are
not in a position to provide a cash donation to those in need, but we can support both
short and long-term recovery efforts. We would like to convene the right players,
leverage our network to raise the needed funds, and support even a small part of the
rebuilding process. Sponsors bring capital, insurance companies bring "Additional
Living Expense" allocations to repay the capital, our team brings the solutions and
voluntary project management hours to get trailers in place. Those displaced get a
temporary home to start the rebuilding process and everyone wins.
Who we are looking to partner with:
Sponsors — Capital is key right now and those displaced have limited access to funds
for rebuilding. Most who are displaced and lost their homes will be eligible for
"Additional Living Expense" allocations from their insurance company. These funds
can be applied toward hotels or other rental housing, but hotels and rental housing are
in short supply. Sponsors (individuals, corporations, non-profits, etc.) can purchase
trailers, with discounts and fundraising support from our team where needed, and rent
them to those displaced. Payback periods are anticipated to be 24-36 months, or less
than 16 months with supplemental funding. At the end of the payback period units can
be donated, sold, or setup for on-going disaster relief housing.

Host organizations —The trailers will need an entity to take ownership and sign a
lease agreement with the displaced individuals and families. This could be the sponsor
or a non-profit or community-based organization that can manage funds and rental
logistics. We can support fundraising where needed or connect hosts and sponsors.
Displaced individuals and families — In the wake of a disaster, keeping things as
simple as possible and getting those in need into comfortable housing is key to
rebuilding. Homegrown Trailers allow individuals to setup on a temporary site or return
to their property whether infrastructure anTutilities are available or not yet online. We
anticipate those who have lost a home and have insurance coverage would receive at
least $1750 per month in "Additional Living Expense" allocations. We recommend that
those living in a Homegrown Trailer during the recovery period pay between $1350
and $2250 per month depending on their available insurance allocations.
How we would like to engage:
We see ourselves as facilitators and providers of a solution. With our strong network
and passionate team, we are first and foremost working hard to identify sponsors and
host organizations. Once we have the core team of partners together and identify the
level of financial commitment, we will support any and all fundraising pathways to
procure additional funds. While we are sending at least one Homegrown Trailer to
house those displaced by the California wildfires, we are laying the foundation for this
to grow exponentially over time. We have the ability to send up to 9 trailers to
California in the next 60 days if we can bring the right partners together. In 2019 we
could allocate up to 30 units from our production schedule for disaster recovery efforts.
The value of working together:
We have a valuable solution that has captivated a broad spectrum of followers and
supporters. Rest assured, those displaced will have a comfortable and safe place to
begin rebuilding their lives. Those of us supporting rebuilding efforts get to share our
brand and commitment to humanity with a broad audience. We have already started
and will continue to document the process and make this information available to our
partners for marketing efforts and cross promotions on social media.
