Subject: Butte Creek Conservation Overlay
Dear Mr Supervisor,
I am writing to you in support of this Conservation Overlay that had been developed with many county residents who
care very about preserving the beauty and what is remaining in this wonderful Northern California.
The items that have been identified in the Overlay document were the result of several community meetings over a
period of 5 years as the important conditions that needed to be addressed and codified. People who live in the Canyon
realize the unique, wonderful qualities that make it not only their home, but a natural resource for the entire
county. We have several endangered species present here, including the last, best run of endangered spring run
salmon.
The Butte County people care about protecting this special area,still left for the present and future generations; The
Butte Canyon residents come together and volunteer to raise funds, and do Canyon clean up every fall, collecting trash
that is left by the people coming to the Butte Creek canyon to enjoy their summer picnic, annual spring bicycle races as
well as the County residents enjoy weekend bicycle rides of all ages! Also the Canyon residents are active in protecting
the Covered Bridge and Centerville School house with its history,that equal Bidwell's history.
Finally, the ordinances in the Overlay are planning tools for well thought out,good development and apply to any future
development.
We would appreciate your support for a long, hard fought, well thought out document that has been the supported
struggle of the canyon residents. We need to stand together to preserve and protect the "Little Grand Canyon" of Butte
County. We owe it to future generations who will come to enjoy this area and be inspired by it. Most of are not very
vocal, but this place is close to my heart and to my children.
