Subject: Library Department Policy Change: Collection Agency Fine Threshold
Chair Connelly and members of the Board, Effective on August 15` the Library is changing its internal policy on fines. The
library will now refer accounts $50 and over to Unique Management collection agency. Since early 2010 the threshold
has been at $25. Staff estimate a loss of approximately $6,700 in fines and slightly less in lost materials. We may still
see some of this come in outside the ane year window. The Library will make adjustments in our budget to account far
the change. The individual fine amounts themselves stay the same.
I had originally thought this was a BOS policy, so my apologies for any confusion. I believe the board will find this a
much Tess contentious policy which will more accurately target our genuine problem accounts.
