Subject: Veterans property tax exemption.
To, Butte County Supervisors Clerk,
I purchased a home in Paradise in early March. Before this e-mail, i've spoke with Robin Bennet and Assessor David
Lenard about relief and was politely well informed about the "supplemental assessment". I ask the Board see the budget
of"100%service-connected"veterans is impacted when the benefit is approved(3-12-18) as a county exemption but not
effective until months later? When a vet uses U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs as loan Guarantor,VA requires impounded
taxes by the Lender at the full rate(1.046%) until assessed. The assessment must be first to trigger the exemption being
active, having value. I'm asking that all disabled veterans have the 'supplemental' within 60 business days once the
escrow closes and the County(ext.7723)exemption unit approves the exemption. I believe the County gains good
residents and shows proof"we honor veterans" by helping avoid months of property tax overpayments by creating a
Ordinance for this purpose. For those who ask,why should a group go before others: i say there's too few vets to affect
the Assessors schedule AND why did you avoid harms way when too young to see consequences of injuries, degraded
health? We can change what's present, so inclusion on the May County Supervisors meeting is requested. Thank You,
Michael A Colwet 530-246-1755. PS.The APN:050-240-047 is one of the affected properties.4-25-2018
