Subject: M&T Chico Ranch Mine
Butte County Supervisors,
We request that you deny the permission to develop the proposed gravel mine atr the M&T
Ranch.
The resulting environmental degradation, the traffic problems created, the loss of prime
farmland, the dangers that are involved with the numbers of large heavily loaded trucks
traveling through the middle of the towns involved would all seemto weigh against such a
project.
As far as the restoration of the land is considered, one only has to look at the eastern edge
of Hamilton City to see what the result of gravel mining usually is. Also, take a look at the
area nortwest of Orland for additional evidence.
We do not think that the few jobs that this project might create are of sufficient monetary
value as to outweigh all the damage and all the concomitant problems that will arise from the
developement and use of this mine. We therefor request that you deny the application.
It would appear that a majority of the inhabitants of the cities of Chico and Durham are
against this proposal. We hope that you as the governing Board for the county will follow the
wishes of your constituents.
