The resulting environmental degradation, the traffic problems created, the loss of prime farmland, the dangers that are involved with the numbers of large heavily loaded trucks traveling through the middle of the towns involved would all seemto weigh against such a project. As far as the restoration of the land is considered, one only has to look at the eastern edge of Hamilton City to see what the result of gravel mining usually is. Also, take a look at the area nortwest of Orland for additional evidence. We do not think that the few jobs that this project might create are of sufficient monetary value as to outweigh all the damage and all the concomitant problems that will arise from the developement and use of this mine. We therefor request that you deny the application. It would appear that a majority of the inhabitants of the cities of Chico and Durham are against this proposal. We hope that you as the governing Board for the county will follow the wishes of your constituents.
