Subject: Fine Debris Removal Nuisance Abatement
Board Members,
| vvamt tnprovide you aquick update omour fire debris removal efforts for the remaining 2017fire-damaged
properties. In summary, our staff have worked with impacted property owners, community members, and the State to
clean up many properties with voluntary participation by property owners. VVehave some property owners that have
either not agreed to participate or we have been unable to make contact with the them, which leaves us with,a need to
begin, weatherization or nuisance abatement on some of the properties that still contain fire debris.
The disaster recovery team is currently evaluating the properties to identify the ones most likely Locause issues for their
neighbors orwaterways once the rainy season begins. For the properties identified aslikely tocause issues,the County
will either weatherize the property for the winter or begin Code Enforcement actions where necessary. Kdonot have an
official count ofthe properties atthis time. We anticipate that necessary abatements will not be completed until next
summer.
Costs for abatement will be covered through a variety of funding sources, including private insurance, community
donations, reimbursements from the State, and lastly some General Fund. The State has committed tmadvance funding
tothe County for qualified costs, ifneeded.
