Subject: Fee waivers for Camp Fire survivors
Hello,
My name is Stephanie Nicholas, first I would like to send my condolences to your County for this horrific event. I work
for the County of San Diego and have worked a number of large, 2500+ homes destroyed, fire response and recovery
events here in San Diego and am very familiar with the things that go on behind the scenes to get survivors safely back
on their properties and eventually back into a home.
In addition, my dad lost his home in Concow during the Camp Fire. Both him and my grandparents are currently staying
in a hotel in Oroville while they wait to see the damage done to my grandparents home.
I'm writing to you for assistance. I am trying to help my dad from afar. I have reviewed your website and still have many
unanswered questions. While I understand the magnitude of this event and the fact that a jurisdiction of your size is not
equipped to deal with a disaster of this size, most of us are not, I'm getting frustrated with the lack of information
available. At the LAC when my dad asked if there would be fee waivers, if the County would be removing burned
vehicles at no charge and if survivors would be able to put a temporary trailer on their property and temp power for an
extended period of time, he was told "I don't know".Since this was declared a disaster by the federal government I
image that all rebuilding and clean up fees will be waived. Can you please confirm that? In addition can you confirm,
since evacuation orders are starting to be lifted, how soon this will happen so people like my dad and his neighbors can
get back to their properties?
Again, I can't imagine how overwhelming this must be for your County and making that fee waiver announcement
sooner rather than later will go a long way to gain the confidence of your constituents. If I have missed information
please guide me to where it is located.
Thank you,
Stephanie Nicholas, Group Program Manager County of San Diego, Planning& Development Services
