YAMAGUCHI Fifth District December 13, 2010 The Honorable Dianne Feinstein United States Senate 331 Hart Senate Off ce Building Washington D.C. 20510 Dear Senator Feinstein; BOARb OF SEIPERVtSORS DEC 1 ~ ~0~~ OROVlLLE, CAl.fFOftNfA On behalf of the Butte County Board of Supervisors and the Butte County Fire Department, thank you for the assistance your office provided during recent discussions with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) regarding our eligibility to receive funding from the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response {SAFER) grant program. As you may recall, after awarding the County $2. i million in SAFER funding, FEMA questioned the County's ability to receive the funding because of our long standing cooperative agreement with .CAL FIRE. The FEMA legal office ultimately determined that the County was indeed eligible to receive the funding and we are moving forward with the grant which will allows us to rehire eleven critical fire f ghting personnel. This decision was not only tremendous news for Butte County but far other California fire agencies that have cooperative agreements, with CAL FIRE. Your support .and the work by Devin Rhinerson were. instrumental in our efforts to preserve the SAFER grant funding. Thank you again.for helping us ensure #hat our citizens are well protected. Sincerely, Bill Connelly, Chairman Butte County Board of Supervisors cc: 'hers ~ e County Board of Supervisors aul ,Butte County Chief Administrative Officer orge Morris, Butte County Fire Chief
