We are truly incredulous at how quickly this board could forget the numerous fires in Butte County and numerous other counties in Northern California over the past few years. Thankfully we have received an abundance of rain this year; however this abundance of rain will increase the growth of vegetation in our county wild lands and set up the scenario for more fires with the summer dry months ahead. Our citizens look to their county and city governments to provide both police and fire protection. By proposing the reduction of five Fire Stations in Butte County, the board will decrease response time to any fires in the jurisdiction of the proposed Fire Stations suggested to be eliminated. Do you board members understand the grave situation you are proposing to county residents living within the areas where you propose to shut down the five Fire Stations? This residents pay their taxes each year and they expect and deserve police and fire protection! It is incumbent on the board of supervisors to seek out the expert opinion of CAL FIRE before ever proposing such a dangerous act. And the fact that one Butte County Fire Station spends time on calls within the city limits is solely because the area of that station was annexed into the city some time ago. What is driving the board to a decision that will endanger our city and rural residents, their property, and even their live stock (pets) and their machinery! This proposal is a potential disaster and it needs to be discarded for the safety of rural residents, their families, livestock/pets and their property, etc. Please dismiss this idea and consider those who are your responsibility to protect. Anything less is gross negligence and, in fact, criminal. Do what is right and protect the citizens of Butte County. Br nt and Diana Bills 4073 Spyglass Road Chico, CA 95973 p.s. Please do your homework on this very dangerous proposal before coming to the meeting. Seek the advice of the fire professionals.
