Dear Board of Supervisors,

I am writing this letter because I am concerned about the work we do in our
Friday Night Live program. I really love the work we do with students and
admire our leaders, but I am being directed to do things I am not sure are
right. I can't bring it up in our office because I don't want to lose my job.
We have a number of projects with schools where we did good stuff, but it
wasn't what we were contracted for and we did it outside the time allowed.
Now the state wants the money back after we spent it and we are asking the
school to come up with the money.
We have a mentoring program with money from the state that uses project
alert and we have Impact Mentoring that now also has money from the state.
We want to switch over to all Impact Mentoring and are going to drop the
other mentoring program. Our Impact Mentoring is good but takes more
time, is more expensive and the data we use to say why we want to change
doesn't seem very good. We also are doing the work without having a
signed contract, now we have to go in put data in for past work we didn't do
right, but we submitted a bill and want to be paid.
We used to work closely with the state FNL office and now it seems like we
just want to do our own thing. I don't think they are even coming to
REACH. We have turned down chances for money to do projects. Some of
our staff spend a lot of time traveling to help other counties do what we do
and presenting workshops at conferences, but it is taking away from time
from the many schools we could be working with here. We even send a
team of young people to Washington DC for a conference, great for the
small group, but is that the best use of our money?
I really like the work I do and the people I work with but hope you might
help us.
