YAMAGUCHI Fitth District On behalf of the Butte County Board of Supervisors and the Butte County Fire Department, thank you for the assistance your off ce provided during recent discussions with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) regarding our eligibility to receive funding from the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER} grant program. As you may recall, after awarding the County $2.1 million in SAFER funding, FEMA questioned the County's ability to receive the funding because of our long standing cooperative agreement with CAL FIRE. The FEMA legal off ce ultimately determined that the County was indeed eligible to receive the funding and we are moving forward with the grant which will allows us to rehire eleven critical fire fighting personnel. This decision was not only tremendous news for Butte County but for other California fire agencies that have cooperative agreements with CAL FIRE. Your support and the work by Tyler Hammon and Fran Peace were instrumental in our efforts to preserve the SAFER grant funding. Thank you again for helping us ensure that our citizens are well protected.
