The Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) requests your support for the ninth annualGreati _Sierra l River
,Il irk, ,p (GSRC) on September 16 2017. The GSRC is a popular volunteer event with a goal of
... ... .
removing trash from waterways across the Sierra Nevada Region. The SNC coordinates this event
annually in conjunction with California Coastal Cleanup Day to encourage good stewardship from the
source to the sea.
During the first eight years of the GSRC, over 30,000 volunteers have removed approximately 818
tons of trash and recyclables from Sierra waterways. Hundreds of community groups have spread
across 22 counties and over 2,600 river miles to pull appliances, cigarette butts, beverage cans,
baby diapers, tires, furniture, and more from the rivers and streams.

The Cleanup kicks off Sierra Nevada Watershed Protection Week, established in 2015 (6L!

percent of California's developed water supply originates in the Sierra Nevada and millions of visitors
travel to the Sierra to hike, camp, and sightsee. Whether you think of Tahoe, Yosemite, Mammoth, or
the Giant Sequoias — the Sierra connects us all.
We would love to have you participate in the event by joining a local cleanup group. In addition, we
would appreciate it greatly if you could aid in getting the `local' word out about the event to your
constituents through your newsletter, website, and/or social media posts. We would be happy to
provide you with information about cleanup sites near you and can provide content for an outreach
message, a sample press release to assist with your publicity efforts, and promotional posters and
postcards, if desired.

removing trash from waterways across the Sierra Nevada Region.
The Cleanup kicks off Sierra Nevada Watershed Protection Week, established in 2015 ( Q! 22
IIIII. ) to highlight the importance of the Sierra Nevada region to the entire state. More than 60
percent of California's developed water supply originates in the Sierra Nevada and millions of visitors
travel to the Sierra to hike, camp, and sightsee.

The Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) requests your support for the ninth annual it t Sierra l River
,Ilii. . (GSRC) on September 16 2017.

The Cleanup kicks off Sierra Nevada Watershed Protection Week, established in 2015 ( Q! 22

percent of California's developed water supply originates in the Sierra Nevada and millions of visitors
travel to the Sierra to hike, camp, and sightsee. Whether you think of Tahoe, Yosemite, Mammoth, or

Good Afternoon Supervisor Royce
The Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) requests your support for the ninth annual it t Sierra l River
,Ilii. . (GSRC) on September 16 2017.
We would be happy to
provide you with information about cleanup sites near you and can provide content for an outreach
message, a sample press release to assist with your publicity efforts, and promotional posters and
postcards, if desired.
thank you in advance for your consideration, and hope you will join the effort by supporting this
year's cleanup. Please feel free to contact me.. IR.QIIiup aiieiriranevada.ca.cov with any questions
