I am writing once again to request some sort of pavement on this road. This is a 1/~ mile gravel road with 7 residences. Over 25 years ago we were promised, by then supervisor Hack McInturf, that our road would be paved within 5 years. As you can see this remains undone. For all of these years we have had school buses on this road. Usually 2 ea. morning and then 2 Ea. eve. At times there has been a kindergarten and special needs bus as well. The road floods over a bit every winter, but is does remain navigatable. Two years ago after the road was 'cautioned' due to flooding the buses began turning around at the top of the hill and began going around, out of their way, to avoid our road. This continued until about a month ago when I see the buses are now coming down this road again. I believe this is quicker and less trouble for the drivers. I also suspect the the arrival of mountain lions to our area may have precipitated this change. I myself have seen two mountain lions in the berry bushes along the road where children were wallcing down the road to the bus stop. These lions were seen by two of us about $:10 in the morning just about 20 minutes after the children were picked up at the end of the road. The children had been walking within 10 feet of where the lions were seen. There have been two such sightings by myself. I called the school the after the f rst sighting, so they could notify parents and I called the Dept of Fish and Game. The wildlife professionals told me that this is lion area due `~Z~ i ~~ r to the water and small animal life that inhabit this area. They sent me the enclosed "living with Ca. Mountain Lions" information. Please, we have waited long enough for a decent road. This road is mess in the winter and the dust is awful in the summer. Of the residents on this road several have moved and been replaced by others. Two have now passed away. One of the deceased was my husband, who suffered from lung cancer. While the dust on the road did not cause the lung cancer it did impair his ability to go outside in the summer and requiared him to wear a mask. With the return of the school buses I am once again asking for improvement of this road. It's been long enough to put it in the budget. We on this road, pay taxes just like those on other rural roads. I often see road improvement on roads with less population. I am thanking you in advance and expect to hear from you soon. fan Harrison 7765 Citrus Ave. Oroville, Ca. 95966 530-533-1171 GC Dept of Public Works Steve Lambert Dist . 4 Kim Yamaguchi Dist. 5 ..._ (r~tJ ~17~/ Jan Harrison 7765 Ctirus Ave. Oroville, Ca. 95966 530 533-1171 Sept 22, 2009 Bill Connelly Supervisor Butte County District One 25 County Center Drive Oroville, Ca. 95965 Supervisor Connelly, Please find enclosed a copy of a letter I wrote to the board members in 2003. This letter describes a road situation that should have been taken care of many years ago. Here it is six years later and nothing has been done. Through the past 20 years I have spoken many times to the road dept. and my Supervisor. They have told me that there were no buses on that road and that the buses turn around somewhere to avoid my road. Well, the buses are still on my road every morning and each afternoon. The road is still a dirty mess in the winter and ist isdifficult for the bus drivers to navigate. I don't know haw much a chip and seal costs and I am aware that money is tight. I do believe that this problem should be addressed in some way. I have never received any comment from the board of supervisors regarding my lettez: I have received many unkept promises from each of the successive representativesofDlst 1. I have enclosed photos of the road in question. I have spoken to the road dept. about the excessive growth of trees and weeds on the road that rubon the buses as they go down the road. I have been assured that ow new road person will contact me. Thanking ou for your expected reply, ~ .. an Harrison 7765 Citrus Ave. Oroville, Ca. 95966 530-533-1171 July 14, 2003 Mx. You also must know that there are four busloads of school children past my house during the school year. This is a mess for the buss drivers in the winter and the dust is very bad in the warm months. We also have one handicapped buss that picks up a young man across the street, and Merit Medi Trans comes 3 times per week to pick up a man with kidney failure who is on dialysis. We, as a group intend to fight for this road improvement no matter what it takes. Please and check this out. I spoke to you before that last election about this. You said you would try to do what ever it takes. i voted for you based on that. I called your office two times today and although the woman who answered the telephone told me, you would call me when you got off the telephone you did not. Thank you for reading this, letter I am hoping you can fix this now. Do not allow the men and equipment to leave without correction this mistake.
