Dear Supervisors and Planning Department:
I am sending this letter respectfully asking the Butte County Board of Supervisors to support
the Planning Commission's recommendation for the sub-zoning designation of AG 40 for the
properties located at the base of the bluffs West of Centerville Road. This includes parcels to the
south of Rim View Road and north almost as far as Center Gap Road in Butte Creek Canyon.
In April of this year, residents living in this area submitted letters to the Board of Supervisors
requesting a sub-zoning designation of AG 160 (to be consistent wlparcel sizes bordering this area)
or nothing smaller than AG 40.
A parcel designation of AG 40 or larger will:
• Protect the watershed.
• Protect the diverse habitat, biological resources, and wildlife populations
including threatened and endangered species.
Promote sustainable growth given the biological constraints and
geological makeup of this area and the Canyon as a whole.
• Promote tourism and its economic benefits.
• Lessen the impact of inconsistencies in sub-zoning designations.
• Limit added pressure on County services in times of fires, storms, floods,
and emergencies.
• Acknowledge lack of safe evacuation routes.
• Limit negative environmental impacts in the Canyon by over-
development.
• Protect historical elements.
• Preserve the quality of life of the community.
• Support actions that will be consistent with conservations goals the
community residents foresee with the creation of a conservation overlay to
preserve the habitat, history, community and recreational elements of the
Canyon.
I want to thank you for your positive support in our efforts to preserve Butte Creek Canyon and
for your consideration of a sub-zoning designation compatible with the fragile and rare ecosystem that
is the pride of the Canyon community, the citizens of Butte County and its many visitors.
Sincerely,
Kate Hicks
