August 28, 2018 Labor Day Activities and Free Day Use at Lake Oroville SRA on September 6 and 7 Labor Day Weekend A reminder that DWR will open portions of the northern section of the Diversion Pool, Burma Road and Brad Freeman Trail from 8 a.m. to sunset Wednesday, August 29 to Tuesday, September 4. This will allow for greater access to hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking and more. Visitors can access the area off Thompson Flat Cemetery Road. Guided Walk State Parks staff and volunteers will be leading a hike on Saturday, September 1, starting at the access beach off Thompson Flat Cemetery Road at 8 a.m. Guided walk highlights include vestiges of pioneer settlements, train tunnels, gold rush legends, as well as native plants and animals seen along the way. The guided hike will return by noon. 1 Free Access at Lake Oroville September 6 and 7 are the final free access dates at the Lake Oroville State Recreation Area as part of DWR's free access program. Come enjoy the 30,000-acre Lake Oroville State Recreation Area, offering a wide variety of day-use activities including, picnicking, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, sail and power boating, water-skiing, fishing, and swimming. The webpage provides up-to-date information on all recreation area amenities, including parking options, shuttle services, boat ramps accessibility, boat rentals, trail access and campgrounds. Visitors are encouraged to recreate safely and responsibly at Lake Oroville. Below are some tips: • Check the weather and bring appropriate clothing to fit the season. Days are warm but nights can get very cool. • Know your personal limitations. • Obey park rules, such as parking in designated areas and not entering closed areas. • Wear a life jacket when recreating in or near the water. • Actively supervise children at all times, especially around the water. • When hiking, make sure you have plenty of water and snacks. Stay on designated trails. • View wildlife from a distance. Never feed or touch wildlife. Have fun and enjoy beautiful Lake Oroville!
