To whom it may concern,
My name is Angel Ruiz and am writing to support the Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Foundation and want it
to stay in its' current location in Butte County. Our experience with the foundation was wonderful. My
Daughter, Natalie Ruiz age 16, has a life dream to become a Wildlife Biologist. She plans to receive her
degree in that field. Our family will continue to support Natalie in her quest to help and work with
animals.
During the weekend of August 10, 11, and 12 2008, Natalie was able to volunteer at the Kirshner
Found;itinn The entire family drove up from Livermore and stayed the weekend in order to support
Natalie. It was extremely rewarding for my wife and I to see Natalie working in an environment that she
loves. The experience was an important stepping stone toward her future. She was actively engaged in
her volunteer work. On her second day at the at the Foundation, she was allowed to present and teach
some visitors about the reptiles at the facility. Roberta Kirshner, director of the facility, and the other
staff were extremely nice, knowledgeable and supportive.
Natalie wanted and tried to volunteer at Kirshner in the summer of 2007 but Roberta Kirshner could not
accommodate Natalie at that time. Natalie wrote a few words for you to read below:
"A few years ago, my grandmother took me to an amazing place; The Barry R. Kirshner
Wildlife Foundation. My grandma, my sister and I enjoyed it very much. Roberta
Kirshner offered me a chance to volunteer over the summer and I really wanted to do it.
However I wasn't able to as things came up and I live about three and a half hours away.
But this summer I was able to come up for an extended weekend and help to volunteer.
It was one of the best experiences of my life.Volunteering at the Barry R Kirshner
Wildlife Foundation has allowed me to do things that would otherwise be impossible for
a 16 year old, Californian, high school student. I was able to help take care of and
interact with exotic animals that many people will never even see outside of a zoo. I was
able to help educate others who wanted to r now aboui these animais and I learned new
information as well. Volunteering there was something I had dreamt of and I am so glad
I was able to do this. Animals are my passion and my dream is to be a conservationist
and wildlife biologist when I graduate college, and I feel like this has made me one step
closer. I want to come back when I can and help out some more, and would like to
continue helping animals as long as I can."
