Dear Chief Grijalva,
Please accept this letter as notification from Butte County that, due to the current economic
downturn and the fiscal environment the County finds itself in,reductions in contracted fire
personnel and services are very likely. At this time, the County does not know the
implementation date for reductions,nor the exact number of personnel that will be impacted,but
anticipates that reductions could be as soon as April 1, 2009. Once a definitive date and
reduction numbers are known,the County will notify the State accordingly.
In addition to budget issues,the County is also faced with a cash flow problem that will be
exacerbated should the State choose to continue deferment of payments owed to the County. If
State payments are deferred for any length of time, the County may find itself unable to pay
future quarterly payments until such time cash begins to flow in from the State again.
