Kisrshner Wildlife Foundation, Durham CA This letter is directed to the Board of Supervisors of Butte County re the Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Animal Park located in Durham, Ca. A treasure exists in Butte County previously unknown to me before today. Although I have lived in this area most of my fife I was unaware of this marvelous facility for endangered wild animals. What a wonderful opportunity for people to see these magnificent animals who are so well cared for and protected while healing from various accidents, genetic disabilities, or simply outlivitIg their previous careers and need a home. School children, senior citizens, and the general public have available to them the wonderful experience of visiting a mini-zoo right in their own area. When I visited the Wild Animal Park today I met an extended family from Switzerland who were vacationing here in northern CA. They had been on a Safari in Africa and as animal lovers visited our small Wild Animal Park They not only enjoyed the Animal Park but were also teaching their children about the animals and what endangered means to these wonderful creatures that share our planet. and world. They also learn how we love and care for them. Just imagine the contribution that the Wild Animal Park could provide if it's existence were better known, not only to the local population but also to all people who visit this area. I spent a wonderful enlightening morning viewing the animals and enjoying the wonder of their existence. The staff and caretakers at the Wild Animal Park were so kind and so obviously love the animals. They are very knowledgeable about each animal and take their time to tell you about their natural habitat, the country they came from, why they are there and the Individual animal's personality. To hear the lions roar with an answering roar from another lion is quite thrilling. It certainly creates a desire for knowledge not only about the individual animal but the country of origin. The people of Butte County along with visitors from other places definitely have a treasure in their own back yard, a treasure that deserves the support not only of the Board of Supervisors of Butte County but also the citizens who five in Butte County.
