Dear Ms. Bose:
This letter is being written to support P.G.&E.'s DeSalba-Centerville Project
Relicensing Application#803. There has been a 15 year cooperative effort to fully
restore excellent annual runs of Spring Run Salmon to Butte Creek. Because of the
support and commitment of landowners, water users,Ducks Unlimited, agencies, the
Butte Creek Conservancy, and especially P.G.&E. and their employees, the annual return
of the Butte Creek Salmon now happens in numbers never before believed possible. Fish
return numbers are now meeting or exceeding the spawning area in Butte Creek that is
available for the Spring Run Salmon, Without P.G.&E. and their Feather River cool
water import network to supplement the natural Butte Creek water summer flows, we
would not have the success story that the agencies now use as a statewide model on how
cooperative efforts to improve the environment can really work. Please expedite
P.G.&E.'s FERC Relicensing Application for their DeSalba-Centerville Project.
PG&E and the California Department of Fish and Game have established a management
partnership that is the back bone of the Butte Creek success story,we fear that any
manipulation of the partnership may be disastrous to the Spring Run Salmon we have
worked so hard to bring back to healthy numbers. By assuring these partners remain we
are confident the Spring Run will continue to flourish.
