ADMINISTRATION
SEP 17 201B
Dear Butte County Board of Supervisors, 9/6/2018 0ROVILLE.CALIFORNIA
We are writing this letter on behalf of the Dewsnup and Correa families. We wish to inform
the Board, of our disappointment of your decision to approve a dangerous and unsightly fence,
especially when it is against the code and laws of Butte County. When we elect people, and you
run for office, you promise to uphold the laws of the county as they are written. We don't
know what promises, if any, or threats, if any, were made to your office to make the Board
over-turn the decision that was already made at the first hearing with the Planning
Commission. It is decisions like this that go against the laws, that make people fed up and lose
trust with politicians and lawmakers. We were sure that this was a black-and-white case
because the law states you cannot use sheet metal for fencing material in Butte County and
somehow you decided to approve it by going against the County Code. When we were talking
with a county employee in the Planning Department he said, that in 2012 the county adopted a
code to not have fences made with steel sheeting material. We believe the county has asked
junkyards to take down or cover those types of fences. We would like to thank you for now
making our homes and the neighborhood look like a junkyard or a pot-grow.
We fail to understand why you would approve such a dangerous and also hazardous fence
which has razor sharp edges and seams on our side where hands could be sliced and cut. There
are many gaps between each piece of sheet metal that are running along approximately 390
feet of the fence and needs to be taken care of. In the Dewsnup and Correa families there are 7
children ages two to fifteen years of age, not including other family and friends children that
come over and play. Now, we are always having to watch the children closely and reminding
them to stay away from the fence because the fence is near where they like to play. We only
hope and pray none of the children get hurt by your neglect of going against your own policies
and codes. We will hold you accountable for it. Some of you came to our homes and saw first-
hand the dangers of what we are talking about and took pictures of the fence. We gave the
Planning Commission several pictures of the flawed areas and we are including some of those
same pictures in hopes, that you will have Mr. Corey fix the fence, in a timely manner. We have
all grown up ourselves here and have chosen to raise our children in this same neighborhood. It
is a part of our heritage. Our family has lived in Gridley since 1906.
We have not received any formal letter from the Board of Supervisors or Planning
Commission of what you have told Mr. Corey that he has to do to finish the fence. We are of
the understanding that Mr. Corey must trim out our side of the fence, the same as his own and
to do something reasonable about the glare from the fence, at his expense. Also, what is the
timeline that Mr. Corey has to finish the fence and how is it going to be enforced to make sure
it is completed in a timely manner.
We just thought we would let you know how disappointed we are with your decision. You
have done a great disservice to the citizens of the county. We know nothing will come from
this letter, in regards to our complaint; but we would like to see the fence completed, as soon
as possible. It is too bad you are able to make laws up, as you wish, and not follow county
codes and ordinances already in place; since that is what we feel happen in this case.
Sincerely, Unhappy Butte County Citizens,
The Dewsnup and Correa Families
