Dear Board,
I am writing in response to your letter, concerning Kelly Munson, with the Chico
Women's Club. She is requesting permission to use Lake Concow Campground, on
September 22- 24, 2017, with festival activities.
In reality, I am strongly commenting, not only on her activities, but in behalf of all future
activities of any group that is using Lake Concow Campground. As a member of the
Yankee Hill Fire Safe Counsel and my husband as a board member, we are highly
concerned about the lack of care that the Lake Concow Campground takes in caring for
their property. The last two events this year,they did not mow their grass in which a
number cars drove into about two feet tall grass, parked, camped, and had campfires. The
grass was green then, but now it is dry and brown. With a hot vehicle, a grass fire could
get a big start before the Jarbo Gap Fire Department(20+ minutes away) could get there.
We go past the front of the campground most everyday and shudder at the thoughts of
another 2008 fire.
We would like to see ALL Lake Concow Campground activities ,NOW and in the
FUTURE, get a temporary permit, UNTIL, Jarbo Gap Fire Department gives an ok that
the Campground is safe to go ahead with their activities one or two weeks in advance of
the activity.
