Dear Supervisors:
District Ranger Randy Gould has been working with Butte County Public Works Director
Dennis Schmidt and Deputy Director'Fom FossUrn, since March, on the use of Forest Service
Road 22N49, as a detour around Mountain House, due to the severe weather damage to the Oro-
Quincy Highway. I understand that this will be a topic of discussion at the next Board of
Supervisor's meeting scheduled for June 13, 2017.
The plan has been to detour from the Oro-Quincy Highway, south of Mountain House, onto
Butte County Road 49665A (French Creek Road), continuing onto 22N49 and returning to Oro-
Quincy Highway, north of Mountain House. The Forest Service has completed the
environmental analysis necessary and identified a portion of the funds to move forward with road
maintenance, to make the 22N49 suitable for use as a detour. To move forward with this
proposed work, the Forest Service will need a written commitment from Butte County.
I am requesting that Butte County ask the Forest Service for use of the 22N49, as a detour for the
Oro-Quincy Highway, as part of the emergency relief, due to the severe weather damage,
I also need to know if Butte County intends 10 use French Creek Road, as a portion of the detour,
and if so will provide any necessary maintenance work to ensure it is suitable as a detour,
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at 530-283-7801.,
L&gv gtoc l 'rlmmris or District Ranger Randy Gould at 530-532-7410,
Sincerely,
DANIEL LOVATO
Forest Supervisor
