Like, many in the local community, I am extremely distressed by our loss of a regular plane service
into Chico.
I understand from my son, who used to keep his plane at our local airport, that officials (I do not
know who specifically) were asked some years ago to organize the lengthening of the airport runway
to accommodate jet service. The, request was refused.
I wish to suggest that now is the time to reconsider the request. I suspect that, given our population
base, an airline could certainly be found to replace it West. We might consider offering the
lengthened airstrip to Southwest. The latter has an excellent record both in terms of safety and
price, and we could hardly do, better.
Unfortunately what seems obvious at the moment is that no one is taking the initiative to get any of
us anywhere.
Perhaps the various officials of Butte County could appoint a particular individual able to negotiate
an intelligent offer. We need an airport with passenger service, and we need it now.
