HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter from Governor Brown's office regarding Williamson Act FundingOFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR March 10, 2014 Doug Teeter, Chair Butte County Board of Supervisors Administrative Center Drive, Suite 200 Oroville, CA 95965 Re: Williamson Act Funding Dear Chair Teeter: * MINISTRATION M R 'A 201 N Thank y ou for your letter dated February 3, 2014 urging state funding for the Williamson Act. I apologize for the delay in sending this response (the result of some out of state travels). We very much share your concern about the loss of prime agricultural land and the importance of farm land for flood control. In the short term, the Governor's budget includes cap and trade funds for the most at -risk agricultural lands. In the longer term, we are interested in determining the best mechanism to rotect and promote agricultural land and open space, not just for food production p and flood control, but for groundwater recharge and other ecological services in an era of climate change. Natural Resources Agency Secretary John Laird and I expect to have a robust dialogue on that set of issues over the next year, and we welcome your participation. Please feel free- to contact me. - Sincerely, A L KEN ALEX Senior Policy Advisor to the Governor Director, Governor's Office of Planning and Research cc Secretary Laird GOVsRNOR ErtMUND G.
